Aeropuertos del Perú awards Sener and UG21 contracts to upgrade four of its airports

21/05/2024

The consortium is to undertake the pre-investment studies for expanding and upgrading Iquitos, Pucallpa and Tarapoto airports plus the technical file at Trujillo Airport for the investment in refurbishing its airside and the marginal expansion of the perimeter fence.

Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP), a Sandoval Group company and the concession operator of a network of 12 regional airports, has awarded the Sener engineering and technology group, in consortium with the engineering firm UG21, contracts to upgrade four of the country’s airports: Iquitos, Pucallpa, Tarapoto and Trujillo.

Specifically, the companies have been selected for two contracts. The first concerns pre-investment studies for expanding and upgrading Iquitos, Pucallpa and Tarapoto airports including improvements to runways and aprons, building new passenger and cargo terminals and parking areas plus other infrastructures. The project encompasses conducting demand surveys, environmental assessments, analysis of development alternatives and the architectural concept coupled with simulations on the airside and landside at these airports.

The second contract is for Trujillo Airport and involves drawing up the technical file for the investment in refurbishing its airside and the marginal expansion of the perimeter fence of the facilities. These studies will enable upgrading the runway, taxiway and aircraft apron pavements and designing the perimeter fence and road around the airport’s entire perimeter which will ramp up safety and security.

Both initiatives seek to enhance the regional airport infrastructure while also spurring local investment and trade. This will be achieved through a package of improvements which, for example, will make it possible to lengthen runways for the operation of larger aircraft, increase passenger and cargo throughput capacity and step up the airports’ operational safety.

“Our purpose is to turn our facilities into ever safer and more efficient venues whilst delivering a world-class passenger experience,” said Leonardo Maia, AdP’s Project Director. “These projects are embedded in our investment portfolio and reflect our culture of continuous improvement at the airports we operate.”

“Sener is extremely proud that, in a consortium with UG21, Aeropuertos del Perú has entrusted our companies with drawing up these crucial strategic projects in the Peruvian Amazon,” commented Jose Manuel Belmonte, Sener’s Airports Director. “We have worked at over 180 airports worldwide and this is one of the most significant and exciting jobs we have ever been engaged in.”

“We are thrilled that AdP has chosen our firm for these contracts,” added Manuel González Moles, UG21’s CEO. “It’s also a huge responsibility since over the coming months we will be heading up the planning for developing the region’s airports which will enhance connections while additionally safeguarding and conserving the ecosystem, something which is critical for this area and the planet as a whole. These new projects in partnership with Sener are yet another milestone in our company’s long-standing commitment to Peru, one of the most proactive countries in upgrading its airports in large part due to the outstanding efforts made by AdP. We are extremely proud that a company like this has selected UG21 and it is an added incentive for us to continue generating wealth and jobs in Peru.”
